Schematic Design
Definition in Architecture: A preliminary plan that outlines the basic layout of a building before detailed construction drawings begin.
At Artisan SIP Plans schematic designs are a specialty. Because drawings are the language of construction it is imperative that you have schematic design early in the process. Our schematic plans include a floor plan with major dimensions , all elevations, and sections with height dimensions in both directions.
The goal with our designs is to give you enough visual information that anyone who sees them will instantly know what your project is about.
They are used to convey your project idea to neighbors, family and friends as well as your local building jurisdiction. Based on the drawings they can guide you with information about zoning criteria for the lot you want to place your project on. This will include items like setbacks from the property line, distance from existing buildings, maximum building height and many other items that vary in different locations.
One key item to use your plan for is budgeting. In today construction market it is absolutely essential to put together a preliminary budget. Whether you are doing all the work yourself, or are using sub contractors for some or most items. With only a schematic plan you will most likely not get a firm quote from subs and suppliers but it will get you close enough to know if the project is financially feasible.
We work at keeping our schematic designs very affordable. I know from working with clients over 40 years it is no fun to spend several thousand dollars for a set construction drawing only to find out you can’t build it on your lot. or can’t afford to build it.
