Our Mission is Simple.
We want to encourage and assist anyone who wants to build their own home or accessory structure to do so affordably and make it high performance to reduce their personal impact on the planet’s resources.
Having worked around residential construction for years, starting as an HVAC contractor, I was anxious to build my own home. When my wife Jill and I had an opportunity in 1998 to do so, we chose to use SIPs for the high-performance envelope. We were so impressed with the result that I started Structures NW.
Our model was helping owner builders, design and close in their project using
Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs).
Jill and I have both been involved in sustainability for many years. Jill trained with The Climate Project and as a sustainability consultant worked extensively with non-profits, governments, realtors, and the private sector to educate them about reducing their carbon footprints and the relevance of social equity.
With a keen interest in promoting building science, I became a Sustainable Building Advisor with Earth Advantage Institute and studied Passive House and Zero Net Energy modeling.
I have also worked with three SIP manufacturers over the course of 25 years.
